Scott Almquist – 64, a longtime resident of Stowe VT, passed away in the comfort of his home and family on Monday, December 28, 2015. Born in Brockton MA on July 24, 1951, he was the son of Shirley (Gummow) Almquist and the late Kenneth O. Almquist. On September 8, 1982, he married the former Linda S. Cole in Stowe VT.

Scott was a 1969 graduate of West Bridgewater (MA) High School and continued his education, pursuing a degree in Art History and Education, at Dartmouth (MA) College. Following college Scott moved to Stowe VT where he went to work first as a prep cook at the former Three Green Doors Restaurant and then as a bartender at the former Bert’s Place.

For the past 35 years, Scott found his vocation and passion working at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe VT. Starting as a Sommelier he specialized in all aspects of wine service and pairings and then later became the exclusive Wine Purchaser and Director, a role he took great pride in. Under his guidance, the Trapp Family Lodge Restaurant won numerous Awards of Excellence from Wine Spectator. Scott retired this past September due to his declining health. An avid Polo player in earlier years, Scott was an active member of the former Stowe Polo Club. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening, cross-country skiing, was a respected gourmet cook and delighted in searching for that next special wine.

Almquist of Stowe VT; his mother, Shirley Almquist of West Bridgewater MA; his sister, Kim Almquist and her partner Del Guillette of West Bridgewater MA; his brother, Ross Almquist of Bridgewater MA; a niece, Jenna M.
