Thelma Josephine Scarce
April 24 1923 - January 02 2016 - Age 92

Thelma Josephine Neely Scarce, 92, of 166 Applewood Dr. Danville, VA, died unexpectedly on Sat. Jan. 2, 2016 from an automobile accident.

Mrs. Scarce was born on April 24, 1923 in the Schoolfield community in Danville, VA, daughter of the late Robert Burchett Neely and Mable Ella Jones Neely. She spent all of her life in the Danville area where she was a cafeteria worker for the Pittsylvania County School System until her retirement. Thelma was known for her deep faith in the Lord and she was a member of Schoolfield Pentecostal Holiness Church.

On August 24, 1961 she married the late Harold Curtis Scarce who died on March 31, 1988.

In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda Diane Kirk.

Mrs. Scarce loved her family very much and she will be deeply missed by anyone who knew her.

Survivors include, son, the Rev. Michael Pressley (Sarah); daughters, Renee Layne (Tim) and Cynthia Astin (Thomas Yeatts) all of Danville, VA; sister, Lorraine Parham of Danville, VA; nine grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted on Wed. Jan. 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Joe Kendrick officiating. Interment will follow the service in the cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm prior to the service at the graveside and at other times will be at the residence, 166 Applewood Dr. Danville, VA 24541.
