James J Lopes
December 16 1931 - February 18 2016 - Age 84

James Joseph Lopes was born December 16th, 1931 in Manteca on the family ranch on Austin Road, which was originally a dairy. He passed away peacefully on February 18th with the love of his family surrounding him.

Jim graduated from Manteca High and served in the US Navy before coming back to Manteca to farm the family vineyard. He also was a plumber at Center Plumbing for over 25 years. He later converted the vineyard to an almond ranch and loved every minute of his time working with the land.

Jim was a long time member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and an active member of the Manteca-Ripon Pentecostal Society. He served as the President of the MRPS in 1989/1990. He was very proud of his affiliation with the MRPS, so much so that his young granddaughter told her classmates that he was President of Portugal!

Jim will be remembered as a hard working, hard loving man of the land.

Jim leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Sylvia, and three children, Lynn Van Camp (husband Marc) of Rocklin, Stacy Wilson (husband Todd) from Modesto and Jim Lopes (wife Valerie) of Elk Grove. Jim was blessed and loved by seven grandchildren, Katie, Audrey (Barona) and Marc Van Camp, Taylor and Jacob Wilson, and Austin and Dylan Lopes.

He is also survived by his twin brother John Lopes (wife Joyce) of Ripon.

P.L. Fry is honored to serve the Lopes family. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 24 from 4-7 pm with a Rosary at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February25 at 10:30am at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 505 East North Street, Manteca. He will be laid to rest at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, 17871 S.
