Frederick W. Konzen of 720 9th Street SE, Dyersville, Iowa died Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

Friends and relatives of Fred may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Reiff Funeral Home in Dyersville, Iowa, where a wake service will be held at 2:00 p.m. and the Dyersville American Legion service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

Services for Fred will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier in Dyersville, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Quint officiating. Burial will be held in St. Francis Cemetery in Dyersville, Iowa, with full Military honors afforded by the Dyersville American Legion Post #137.

He was born July 26, 1934 in Peosta, Iowa, son of Frank and Elizabeth M. (Neumann) Konzen. He is a graduate of the former St. Joseph’s High School in Farley, Iowa. He served in the Air Force, during the Korean War. On August 8, 1959 he was united in marriage to Elaine Sherlock at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Worthington, Iowa. He was employed with John Deere Dubuque Works for 30 years, retiring in 1992.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

He is a member of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Dyersville and a member of the Dyersville American Legion Post #137 for which he served as past Commander. He also served as Commander of the 2nd District American Legion. He was a past Board member of the Dyersville Commercial Club and past manager of the Dyersville White Hawks Baseball team for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Konzen of Dyersville, Iowa; two daughters, Jacquie Konzen of Dyersville, IA, Jeni (Gene) Ploeger of Peosta, IA; two grandchildren, Alyssa and Ayden Ploeger; three siblings, Frank (Lois) Konzen of Farley, IA, Lloyd Konzen of Dyersville, IA, and Mary Robey of Belle Vista, AR; a brother-in-law, Carl Craugh of Platteville, WI two sisters-in-law, Rose (Marvin) Funke of Dyersville, IA and Lois Konzen of Farley, IA.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ardell Craugh and a sister in infancy; two brothers, Clarence and James Konzen; a sister-in-law, Mary Konzen and a brother-in-law, Elmer Robey.
