Obituary

Frank R. Holecek died peacefully in his home in Bartlett, IL to be with the Lord. Frank was a proud American and will be remembered for his kindness and generosity. Born in Berwyn, IL of parents who came from the Czech Republic, a long-time resident of Riverside, IL, with retirement years spent equally between IL and Atlantis, FL, he lived a long and wonderful life. He loved life, his family, his friends, his country, and the Lord Jesus. He appreciated and gave thanks for each and every day, often saying that every day is a gift and bonus from God. He lived and believed that the greatest word in the English language is “gratitude”.

Frank earned a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Northwestern. He proudly served as a U.S. Navy officer in WW2 and was later called back during the Korean War. He had a successful business career beginning with Home Mfg. Co. in Taylorville and Decatur, IL and ending up as president of The Marvel Group in Chicago, fully retiring in 1990.

Frank was a true mentor and inspiration to his friends, family and employees. He had many favorite sayings such as “a manager is one who makes things happen” and “be a thermostat, not a thermometer” which is how he conducted his business and lived his life.

Frank enjoyed and appreciated classic music, travel, golf, boating, and flying. He was especially proud to hold an instrument rated, multi engine private pilot’s license which enabled him to fly his Piper Seneca II twin engine airplane back and from Chicago to Florida for the Seasons, which he did until well in his seventies. Whenever he saw an airplane go overhead he would look up and smile – he was a true pilot.

Frank is preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and first wife of 47 years, Marilyn(nee Litster) who died of cancer in 1994; his parents Frank and Katerina(nee Rejsek); three sisters Mamie Meloun, Vlasta Shrofe, and Georgianna Svoboda, and too many old classmates and good friends that he missed very much. He leaves behind his second wife, Charlene(nee Boden) whom he married in 1998; his two sons Bruce(Jeri) and Mark(Janet); two grandchildren Michael(Shrankhla) and Keith(Jessica); a great granddaughter Charlotte on the way; a sister Virginia(the late Robert) Nicklas; many nieces and nephews; step children Laura(Dean) Marasa, Kimberly(Tom) Cramer, Kristina(Chris) Weber, Sean(Emelia) Helton, and Annie(Dave) Sadowski; step grandchildren Stephanie, Jessica, Jennifer, Miles, Nicolette, Olivia, Cora, Joseph, Brandon, Van, and Tara; 4 step great grandchildren; and many loving family members.

Family and friends will meet Tuesday, July 26 at St. Peter Damian Catholic Church 109 S. Crest, Bartlett. Mass 11:00am. Interment immediately following Woodlawn Cemetery Forest Park, IL.
