George (Zeke) Douglas Harvey
December 07 1925 - August 14 2016 - Age 90

George Douglas Harvey was born Dec. 7, 1925 in Brownsville, TX to Georgie and Simeon Harvey. The family moved to Harlingen in 1932 where he went through school, graduating in 1943. Shortly after attending the University of Texas he was drafted into the army where he served in the Signal Corp until the end of WWII. The nickname of “Zeke” was tagged on him in the service but only followed among his amateur radio friends. Following this service he worked as a commercial photographer for a number of years. During this time he was instrumental in passing the legislative action which provided for Amateur Radio call letter license plates for automobiles in Texas. In the 1950’s he went to work as an electronic technician for the Western Radar Line (DEW line) in the Arctic. He worked for a number of years in the photo finishing business. He next worked for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. in the communications field. He then worked for a local microwave company, CPI Microwave and later for the Western Union Company. For many years he served as the trustee of the University Amateur Radio Club station license. He retired in 1990 and enjoyed his Amateur Radio activity. He is survived by numerous cousins and his life partner, Sam H. Holt, III.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 18, 2016, at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, Texas.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 19, 2016, at Harrell Funeral Home,

Austin, Texas. Interment will follow in Yoakum Restland Memorial Park, Yoakum, Texas.
