James (Jim) Leslie Partin
July 11 1938 - February 26 2017 - Age 78

James Leslie Partin was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017. He was born to the late John Leslie and Marceil Partin on July 11, 1938, in their home near Banbury Hot Springs (Buhl) Idaho. Jim moved to Castleford, Idaho to live with his grandparents, Hiram and Amanda Partin. He was in second grade at Castleford Elementary when he met Wanda Wisecaver (she was in the first grade). After graduating from Castleford High School Jim attended the University of Utah with a football scholarship. In December of 1957, he returned home to escort Wanda to her senior prom, it was their first date. He was drafted into the US Army in 1961, but before he left to serve, he and Wanda married.

After his service, Jim fulfilled his dream of graduating from the University of Idaho with an architectural degree. Jim and Wanda started their family in Idaho where Dan was born and then moved to Seattle, Washington where they had Michelle and he began his career. After several years, the family moved to Cedar Hills, Oregon and eventually he opened his own architectural firm in Hillsboro. Jim was very active in the community of Hillsboro. He was in Rotary, serving at one time as President. He was also a member of the long range planning committee for the city's Chamber of Commerce and served on the Tuality Hospital Property Management Board. He was very proud to be a part of the Boys and Girls Club. Upon retirement, Jim and Wanda moved to a home he designed in a small community called The Capes near Oceanside, OR. Even after retirement, he remained active in his community. He was a member the Architectural Review Committee of The Capes and enjoyed his very important self-appointed role as the watch person for the homes of his many friends and neighbors in their tight-knit community. Jim and Wanda enjoyed traveling Europe as well as spending time at home with family and friends. Since he was an amazing cook, he was often the chef for any event or holiday. Although according to him nothing ever turned out quite right. Jim was an avid reader and would often finish novels in a day while sitting on their deck in the sun. Jim was very proud of his family as well as the many West Highland White Terriers and several Scottish Terriers that captivated his heart over the years.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Wanda; son Daniel and daughter-in-law Lisa Wence of Hillsboro; daughter Leslie Michelle and treasured 9 year old grandson Lucas James of Carlton. Jim requested to be honored with a ‘green’ burial. A committal service was held at Valley Memorial Cemetery in Hillsboro, on March 5, 2017. His service in the United States Army was honored with a touching Honor Guard Ceremony. Reverend Canon James Bethell, a close friend of Jim's presided over the service.

Jim Partin never liked funerals, who does? He also didn't want anyone mourning his death. Instead, two Celebrations of Jim’s life will be held in the communities he held dear. The first will be held on April 1, 2017 in Hillsboro, Oregon. The second will be May 7th at The Capes in Oceanside, Oregon. Please contact the family at oceansidepartins@yahoo.com or lightnirod@gmail.com if you are interested in attending either event.
